Madame Roulin rocking the cradle, Vincent van Gogh, 1889

Exhibition highlights

STILLNESS AND BLOOM

Rest, care and the labor of home — Stillness and Bloom gathers Van Gogh, Renoir and Cézanne around the household: cradles rocked, tables set, bouquets arranged and rearranged.

Van Gogh's Madame Roulin (La Berceuse) of 1889 anchors the first room, flanked by Renoir's chrysanthemums and Cézanne's apples. The final gallery recreates a nineteenth-century flower court with living arrangements refreshed weekly by our gardeners.

It is a deliberately gentle exhibition: low benches, large print labels, and a quiet hour every Sunday morning with reduced sound and light.
